Fingerless Gloves with Petite Cables

The Size:
These fingerless gloves will fit an average adult woman's hand. The glove should stretch a little and fit close to the hand for most comfortable wear; not overly loose or tight. If you'd like to increase or decrease the circumference simply increase or decrease the number of stitches cast on by multiples of four stitches to retain the cable pattern.

Finished measurements:
Overall Length: 6.5", Cuff width: 3.25", Widest width at gusset: 4"

The Materials:
Superwash Me - Light Sock Yarn by J. Knits, 1 - 2 oz skein
US Size 2 double pointed needles
Stitch marker

The Model Shown in:
Superwash Me - Light Sock Yarn West Virginia (WVA)

The Gauge:
11 sts/in over petite cable pattern

The Pattern Stitch:
Petite Cables (multiple of 4 stitches)
Round 1: *knit 2, purl 2*, repeat * to *.
Round 2: *knit 2 tog but do not slip stitches off left needle, knit first stitch again, slip both knit stitches off the left needle, purl 2*, repeat * to *.
Rounds 3 & 4: same as Round 1.
Note: this pattern stitch is very nice on the wrong side - making the gloves reversible!

The Knitting:
Cuff: Cast on 68 stitches. Distribute evenly over three double point needles taking care not to twist and once knitting position the “purl 2” stitches over the space between needles to avoid the looseness common at this spot when working with double points. Start Petite Cables pattern. Work in pattern for 2.5 inches up to last stitch; slip this stitch unworked onto the first needle in preparation for the gusset.

Thumb Gusset:
Round 1: purl 1, make 2 stitches by knitting into the “bar” below, purl 1 (these four stitches start the gusset), place marker, work remaining round in pattern.
Round 2: purl 1, knit 2, purl 1, slip marker and continue in pattern around.
Continue knitting in pattern increasing two stitches on both edges of gusset every fourth round - make sure to keep the gusset in the Petite Cables pattern stitch twisting the cables as the paired knit stitches present themselves. This is much easier than it sounds. Work in this manner until the gusset has 26 stitches. End the gusset as follows: purl 1, bind off in pattern 24 stitches, purl 1, remove marker and continue knitting round in pattern.

Palm: Knit in pattern for another inch. Bind off on Round 3 of Petite Cable pattern.
