Flowered Baby Blanket
Spring and baby girls bring to mind flowers. This blanket features colorful I-cord flowers strewn on a bed of blocks. The blanket is knit first in an easy knit/purl pattern which produces an appealing checked pattern. Color I-cord flowers are made separately and attached at random. Designed for the beginner knitter to craft for the new baby in the family.

The Materials:
Berroco Touché Main Color 9 skeins
Berroco Touché Flowers, 1 skein each contrasting color will make about 11 flowers
US #7 24" circular knitting needle
US#6 double pointed needles
yarn needle

The Gauge:
5 sts/in & 7 rows/in in stockinette stitch on US #7

The Knitting:
Blanket Knitting:
Entire blanket is knit in Main Color with four stitches garter at each edge. Using #7 needle, cast on 158 stitches. Knit four rows (garter border).

Row 1: Knit 4 (garter edge), *purl 15, knit 15*,repeat * to * ending with purl 15, knit 4.
Row 2: Knit 4, *knit 15, purl 15*, repeat * to * ending with knit 15, knit 4.
Repeat Rows 1 & 2 for three inches ending with Row 2; first row of blocks knit.

Begin next row of blocks.
Row A: Knit 4, *knit 15, purl 15*, repeat * to * ending with knit 15, knit 4.
Row B: Knit 4, *purl 15, knit 15*, repeat * to * ending with purl 15, knit 4.
Repeat rows A & B for three inches, ending with Row B; second row of blocks knit.

Continue in established block pattern keeping four stitches in garter at each edge. Work until ten rows of blocks have been knit. Knit four rows (garter border). Bind off.

I-Cord Flowers:
Using #6 double point needle and contrast color cast on 4 stitches. Knit across stitches. Do not turn. Slide stitches back toward the right tip of needle. Pulling firmly knit across five stitches again. Repeat, making sure to tug firmly on first and second stitch of each row. This will make a hollow cord. Work for about 15 inches. Bind off. Using accordion fold, fold lengthwise forming six segments; each segment will be about 1.25 inches long; this takes some practice. With yarn needle and spare matching yarn; draw yarn through all six folds on one side, draw yarn tight forming the six-petal flower. Knot tightly. Make about 20 flowers in several colors. Sew to blanket in random pattern.
